Tuition Fees

Citizen of the EU/EEA and Switzerland do not have to pay tuition fees as long as they are within the minimum duration of the doctoral programm (6 semesters) plus two additional semesters. Additionally, some groups of people, like refugees, are granted this regulation. Starting from the 9th semester, doctoral students have to pay € 382.56 (state: autumn 2016) per semester. 

Remission of the tuition fee are granted for several reasons. For example:

  • employment in the previous year (more than € 5,415.20 in 2014)
  • serious illness or pregnancy for more than two month.

In these cases you have to apply for a remission of tuition fees in the Department for Studies.

Citizen of some countries like, for example, Afghanistan, Yemen or Somalia, have a special agreement to be exempted of tuition fee. For more infos please visit:

Citizen of all other countries have to pay about 750€ per semester (exact value changeing contiously). Here, no remission can be granted.

Beside all this, students have to pay the students union fee (incl. insurance) of about 19 € per semester.

Please note: Within the extended admission period (5th of February to 30th of April for the summer semester and 5th of September to 30th of November for the winter semester) the amount of the tuition fee is increased by 10%
