Our last chance to fight against the budget cuts!
The government has proposed a university budget of €15.9 billion for 2028–2030, ignoring that the Austrian universities clearly stated that any budget below €17 billion would force them to reduce staff, heavily affecting teaching, research and administration. End of October we are going the reach the point of no-return, since the Austrian National Budget will be fixed afterwards.
This means fewer positions, expiring fixed-term contracts, hiring freezes, worse supervision, fewer courses, and increased pressure on labs and research groups.
For doctoral students, this is existential. Our work depends on functioning institutes, available supervisors, well-equipped labs, fair teaching structures, and sufficently funded positions.
This is why we need to demonstrate!
Hard Facts:
Demonstration “Alarmstufe Rot #UnisRetten”
22 October 2026, 14:45
Resselpark, near Karlsplatz 13, 1040 Vienna
Let us stand together as doctoral students at this demonstration. This is about OUR working conditions, OUR research, and the future of universities in Austria.
